Beginning Spindle Spinning

Saturday, May 2       1-4 pm
$45 (includes drop spindle and fiber)
$35 if you have your own spindle and fiber
Instructor: Marianne Hurley
Class Description: In this two-hour class, you will learn how to prepare your fiber for spinning, what makes yarn hold together, two methods of getting the spindle to spin, how to wind the yarn you’ve created onto the spindle, and some basic spinning terminology. Students will learn some basics about fiber characteristics and the mechanics of creating yarn. Students will learn the Park-and- Draft method to get started exploring how twist enters fiber and yarn is created. These are the same basics of making yarn that are used when working on a spinning wheel. Each student will get to take home their spindle and first yarn, enough fiber to continue practicing at home. No prior experience is required. While this class is for absolute beginners, it is also suitable for those seeking a refresher.
